Remember Me First Take: About Nostalgia, Love and Friendship

Review of Episode 1

The first episode of Remember Me was incredible. After My Only 12%, this is the only series that portrays Thai rustic life with so much love. The series reminds you of the Korean drama Reply 1988. Yet, it is very different from the Reply Series in essence. This is also a story of neighborhood kids who grow up together. So, here are my thoughts on the first episode of Remember Me.

The series wastes no time in establishing the nostalgia element. We are taken back to the past, a few seconds into the series. And before we realize it, we are in that world of childhood, friendship and growing up. We also walk down the memory lane along with the characters as nostalgia seeps in.

Remember Me has an ensemble of First Chalongrat Novsamrong, Ja Phachara Suansri (the Don’t Say No actors), Title Teshin Anusananan,
Man Supakrit Charoonmatha, Mean Phiravich Attachitsataporn (also one of the directors) and Title Tanatorn Saenangkanikorn. The directors of Remember Me are Mean Phiravich AttachitsatapornNew Siwaj SawatmaneekulNipitpon Muangsinun.

A huge shoutout to whoever did the casting. Every actor perfectly fits the character they play. The child actors who play the childhood of the main characters are extremely talented. They steal the show in the first episode. First Chalongrat Novsamrong and  Mean Phiravich Attachitsataporn also stand out in the first episode.

The setting is a very real, rustic Thailand. The supporting characters are so good. It does not feel like they are acting, rather we are in their neighborhood watching the things they do. The makers have kept it as real as possible. The writers have brilliantly and very effectively linked the theme of love to communication. It is beautiful to see the little exchanges between characters.

The score and OST are phenomenal. What really got me watching the first episode was the OST that plays in the beginning. Cinematography and the overall execution is brilliant. Every frame looks beautiful. The only problem I had with the series was First’s obviously fake ‘acne’ (a better make up artist would have been nice).

Overall, Remember Me is a must watch piece of art if you grew up in the 90s or 2000s. You can watch it on GagaOOLala.
