Review of Episodes 1-6
I will Knock You is an ongoing Thai BL series which tells a simple love story in the most unique way. The series stars Tar Atiwat Saengtien and Bom Thanawat Uthaikitwanit in lead roles. The director of the series is Champ Weerachit Thongjila who has also written it. He is famous for creating the most popular BL series, Together.
The storytelling is so unique and I have not seen any BL series like this before. The execution and writing is so solid here. The characterization is incredible because, you feel like you are seeing these characters for the first time. We have not even seen the mannerisms that the characters have in any BL series before.
And the series is so different from Together and it was surprising to learn that the same director has created this one too. Honestly, I will Knock You is so much better than Together in every way – the cast, characterization, setting, costumes and what not.
The most interesting aspect of this series is its setting. The series has a rural setting which we usually do not see in Thai BL series. The characters in this world make us want to be a part of the world.
Tar Atiwat Saengtien plays “‘Noey” Watphlu, the narcissistic boy who is the leader of a gang. The actor is immensely talented and he plays the flamboyant and short-tempered Noey with ease. Noey believes in destiny and always listens to a particular old song (probably a very popular one) and whenever the song plays, we are in for a treat. It is hilarious and we cannot get the tune out of our head.
Bom Thanawat Uthaikitwanit plays the role of Thiwa, a tutor who is a scaredy cat. These types of characters are very frequent on screen, but the actor’s interpretation of the character makes it very unique.
Costume design is another aspect which is praiseworthy, especially of the gang. They are always in colorful clothes and the costume designer has done an amazing job here.
The only thing that is a low point and one that cannot be overlooked is the underlying toxicity and the comic portrayal of bullying. One might even fail to notice how Thi is being forced or threatened by Noey all the time. This part of the show is very regressive.
