Review of Episode 1
It is very rare to find a soulful work in the BL genre. Sometimes the plot would be good and fails in execution and vice-versa. This happens mainly because commercial intentions take precedence over artistic ones. Very rarely we get to see an effort in creating a masterpiece. My Only 12% is a well-crafted series which we seldom see in the BL genre space.
The series is very cute and puts a smile across your face. The opening shot itself will hook you to the screen. It is a two minutes long single shot which is superbly executed. We get to see the environment or the setting in which the main characters dwell, in this single shot. It is well-written and executed with utmost attention to detail.
The Cast
I really loved Earth Katsamonnat Namwirote when I watched Until We Meet Again. The actor has a charm and energy which makes us fall for whatever he does on screen. In UWMA he made us laugh with him and cry with him. Here, he plays the role of Seeiw who is cute, introverted and innocent. Santa Pongsapak Oudompoch plays the cocky Cake with a natural ease. In addition, there is also a guest appearance in the first episode which excites you.
Another aspect which I loved was the setting. We get to see the rural Thailand as it is, in My Only 12%. It is probably for the first time I am seeing the countryside of Thailand which is beautifully rustic and real in a series. We see people who we meet in our daily lives here. The rustic scenes, the candy shops and the school are very realistic.
The supporting cast is worth mentioning. They play a great role in bringing the setting very lively and organic. My Only 12% has a well executed tight screenplay. There is nothing new in the story, but its beauty lies in how mundane it is. The cinematography and the color grading uplifts the rusticity of the countryside setting. This is a series which deserves everyone’s attention. The first episode promises a masterpiece in making.
