Episode 1 Review; The Mysterious and the Fantastic
The Eclipse is mysterious and fantastic which makes for an extremely engaging plot. The series has been one of the most anticipated series of 2022, ever since its first trailer was released eight months ago. The trailer was very promising and showcased not the usual BL thread. It seemed to tell a story which is beyond the romantic. This is a review of the Thai series The Eclipse.
The title The Eclipse is also made relevant in the series. It is the phenomenon that connects the elements in the plot to the supernatural or the fantastic. The idea is obviously dark and mysterious and there seems to be a lot going on in the school where all the events happen. The school itself is like the microcosm of a dystopia.
The Cast
Along with the gray shade the main character had, what interested me was the casting. Casting is really unusual here. Khaotung Thanawat Ratanakitpaisan plays the role of Ayan who is the mysterious new boy in the school. We have always seen him playing innocent and cute characters (as Longtae in The Tale of Thousand Stars). His portrayal of the gray shaded enigmatic Ayan in The Eclipse shows the actor’s potential. Likewise First Kanaphan Puitrakul plays the school prefect Akk, a character which anyone would have easily imagined for Khaotung. Both the actors are brilliant.
Another laudable aspect is editing. It makes the series all the more thrilling and hikes the excitement level. The Eclipse also has a talented line of supporting cast which includes Neo Trai Nimtawat, AJ Chayapol Jutamas and Louis Thanawin Teeraphosukarn.
Although there isn’t much that we can figure out from the first episode, The Eclipse looks like a fun ride which keeps the viewers on their toes. It might seem like silly at some points but that is the beauty of the series. The series brings something solid in the somewhat silly. It is definitely worth a watch.
