Review of First & Second Episodes
Based on the Japanese manga series “Junhan Shuttai!”, the ongoing Korean TV series Today’s Webtoon is a light-hearted comedy-drama which gives the audience a feeling of warmth. An interesting storyline complemented by eloquent screenplay and excellent direction by Jo Soo Won makes this series stand out. The very first scene of the series blew my mind with excellent direction and camera angles.
The series shows the journey of a woman who is a former Judo gold medalist (played by Kim Se-jeong) with a big passion for webtoons. She quits Judo due to some reason and wanted to make a new career on her own. After attending many interviews she gets into the webtoon industry without any qualification or prior experience. She is cheerful, optimistic and a problem solver with great passion and an unfathomable amount of energy.
The family dynamic shown in the series is hilarious to watch. The scene in which she gets a job was heartwarming and funny at the same time. There are a lot of humorous scenes in the series. The series apart from being funny also captures the burdensome life of a webtoon artist who has to meet the weekly deadlines without even taking a break.
The action sequences in the series are beautiful to watch. The very first action sequence in the series was incomparable. The anime which comes in between the scenes made the whole watching experience more interesting.
The casting directors have done a fantastic job. The actors have done a good job in playing their respective characters. The supporting character Jang Man-cheol played by Park Ho-san was hysterical. Another exceptional performance that should be mentioned is by Kim Kap-soo who plays a senior artist.
I recommend this drama to anyone who enjoys watching a light hearted comedy or feel good series with a different story line.
