Netflix’s The Interest of Love: K-drama Review

Review of Episode 1

The Interest of Love is a newly released Netflix K-drama. It stars Moon Ga-young and Yoo Yoon-seok in lead roles. The drama is created by the director of Do You Like Brahms?, Jo Young Min. The screenwriters are Lee Hyun Jung and Lee Seo Hyun.

The drama is a slow burn. As in Do You Like Brahms?, the director follows a slow-paced narrative which is slice-of-life. The first episode does not thrill you till the end but, the way it ends is very satisfactory. This is a romance, so there are many cliche romantic scenes which we see in K-dramas.

The male protagonist (played by Yoo Yoon Seok) is the typical K-drama hopeless romantic. The character arc of the female protagonist (played by Moon Ga-young) is very interesting. She is a mystery that no one can solve. She seems complicated, sweet and rude at the same time. As the hero and other characters in the drama, the viewers also cannot figure her out. We may have to watch more for that.

Do You Like Brahms? was full of broken, complicated and flawed characters, and I am a fan of that show for those same reasons. It was about complicated relationships and lost dreams. Here, the hero looks too good to be true. The Interest of love is also about relationships as the name suggests. But it does not hook you like Do You Like Brahms?

As I said, this drama is watchable mainly for the female protagonist. It is one hell of a character and Moon Ga-young plays the character effortlessly. And it is such a nuanced performance. Other actors have also done a good job.

The Interest of Love is available to watch on Netflix.
