Episode 1 Review
Club Friday 14 is set in a hospital, but it is not a medical drama. The protagonist, Mook, happens to be working as a nurse in this hospital. The majority of events in her life is related to and takes place in this hospital. The series is an average flick which focuses on love and belief.
The series has characters which are real yet dramatic. This is definitely a drama, so there ought to be some dramatic moments. But the drama becomes rather funny at times and is reduced to silly catfights. The main character seems to be suffering from PTSD but the treatment of her issues itself is problematic.
About Love & Belief and an Underwhelming First Episode
Everyone around the protagonist, despite being working in the medical field, talks about her having some ‘issues.’ The stigma is so very obvious here. Getting help for mental health issues does not seem to be a concern for the main character as she continues to work in the ER. Nor do the people around her care. We do not understand the character at all and sometimes we also take her to be manipulative as the other characters say. This is a major flaw in writing. Because she is supposed to be misunderstood by other characters not the viewers.
The scenes are very disconnected and there is no organic progression from one scene to another which is to be blamed on the editing. There are no well fleshed out scenes and it is funny to see some characters leave the frame just after delivering a dialogue. The flashback scene is good but still it does not hit your emotions.

The good thing about the series is that the characters are flawed. They are not perfect. The male lead, or the character that seems to be good, are not perfect human beings. The usual bitchy stereotype of a villain is also here. The protagonist’s impeccability among these characters seem forced and fake. The series is about love and belief. The characters are complicated too, which is one thing that might hook some audience if not all. And the actors have done a fairly good job.
Overall, Club Friday 14 is an average watch. Some parts are good but the major part of it is a miss. There are no factors which are entertaining and even the humor falls flat. Not to mention the dramatic background score. There is also the problem of timing in dialogue delivery which is not pretty to watch. Fans of soap operas might like it.
