The new South Korean series in Netflix Becoming witch’s first episode has all the ingredients to hook the audience. The series directed by Kim Yun-cheol and written by Park Pa-ran is centered around three women friends in their forties. The story throws these women into circumstances in which they might murder someone.
Series plot
The series begins with the women going on a road trip with something suspicious ( might be someone they have murdered) in their trunk. Before revealing what is in the trunk the story goes back to a cafe-like space where the two of them meet their third friend after years. This gives a little bit of information about the characters. All of them are married and are leading different lives. And none of them is leading a fulfilling family life.
The back and forth narration of the story is a little bit confusing. However, the audience will get the hold of it after sometime.
Worthy Factors
The are a lot of hilarious scenes in the series. For example, the reference to the Year 2K apocalypse was hilarious. A funeral performed for a dog is also one of the best funny scenes. The excellent background score elevates the comedy. The series lets the audience laugh and be curious at the same time.
The chemistry between the three friends is outstanding. The actors, Lee Yu-ri, Lee Min-young and Yoon So-yi have done a brilliant job in executing the eloquent screenplay so far. The bright colours used almost all the time reveals the lightheartedness of the series. However, there is more to unravel. An unresolved mystery. There is more to see in this series.
Who can watch it?
Overall, Becoming witch is a dark comedy dealing with serious themes in a humorous way. I would recommend this series to anyone who enjoys dark comedy, mystery and drama. This series is not what we usually expect from a typical Kdrama but has everything an audience would ask for.
