Happy Ending Romance Review

Happy Ending Romance is a newly released Korean BL series. It stars
Leo, Ha Jong Woo and Karam in lead roles. The show focuses mainly on three characters and is obviously a triangle love story. This is my review of the first two episodes of Happy Ending Romance.

Despite the title, everything is not happy in the first two episodes. There is definitely a melancholy aura in the beginning, which could gradually become more pleasant. The character Han Tae Young lights up the screen and he is the most optimistic and happy character you might have come across. Ha Jong Woo has a charming presence as the warm and kindhearted Han Tae Young.

Karam is apt as the brooding and melancholy Cha Jung woo. He plays the central character which every character in the drama talks about and is the crux of the story. The actor is good especially in emotional scenes. Leo also does a good job as the popular writer Kim Jung Hyun.

The storyline is a very simple triangle love but the setting adds to the complexity of the narrative. Setting the story up in a very professional space rather than in a college is a fresh take.

But there are some problems with the storytelling and it is a bit confusing in the beginning. The editing makes it very difficult to understand the chronology of events. And even after two episode we do not know the actual relationship between Cha Jung woo and Kim Jung Hyun. It is very obscure.

Overall, Happy Ending Romance is a good attempt in bringing the triangle love story trope to the BL narrative. I would not say it is a must watch but it is definitely watchable.
