The drama reminds you of the American classic Sleepless in Seattle. The premise of a single father finding love through letters is the same. Fanletter, Please is also a very heartwarming romantic-comedy. It talks about human relationships and emotions.

The Cast

Choi Soo-young plays the top Korean star who is in the midst of a scandal. She is perfect as the not-so-perfect Han Kan-hee who is disliked by people around her and loved by her fans. The actor brings the arrogant, impulsive character to life as she is sometimes cheerful, sometimes emotional, sometimes angry and sometimes stressed.

Yoon Park plays Bang Jeong-seok which is probably his career’s most meaty role. He is phenomenal, especially in emotional scenes. We feel empathy for him as he carries out those scenes. But the child actor Shin Yeon-woo as Bang Yu-na steals your heart. The little girl plays a character which is innocent and mature and is oftentimes a comfort to people around her. She cries effortlessly on screen and before we know it, she has our hearts.

The comedy scenes are so on point. The actor who plays the paparazzi photographer who always stalks the heroine takes most of the heavy lifting. His scenes are hilarious. Another applaudable aspect is the discussion on mental health. These are real issues which are usually ignored in romantic comedies. But this drama chooses to talk about it.

Fanletter, Please also follows a making style which we have seen a lot. There is nothing new here. Even the dialogues are not anything rare. But it is also a joyful watch. It kind of has a therapeutic or cathartic effect on you. I would not say that this is a must watch, but it would not hurt to watch this.

You can catch the drama on Viki.
