Review of Episodes 1-4
Blind is a mystery thriller starring Ok Taec Yeon, Ha Seok Jin and Jung Eun-ji. It follows an investigative narrative which talks about a serial murder case. So, how does Blind fair so far? Here is my first take on the K-drama Blind, and you can decide whether to watch it.
Blind had a very intriguing trailer with some never-seen-before casting. The trailer got me to watch the series, but honestly the trailer was well tailored than the drama itself. Blind is good but it never raises above that in the first few episodes and does not really meet the expectations.
The good thing about Blind is its casting. The actors are really perfect fit for the roles and have done a decent job. The cinematography is brilliant and you really feel the bloodshed and violence and some scenes are uncomfortable to watch. The background score, especially the whistle tune gives you the chills, which you demand from a psycho-thriller.
The Flaws
But Blind goes wrong mainly on the paper. There are some aspects in the screenplay which are evidently unavoidable. There is an unreliable narration right from the beginning which is perfect for a thriller like this. But even this narration seems inorganic at times.
The show also preaches against prejudices; about how people from lower social circles are often judged. But it does not succeed in this preaching. Very ironically, these judgments come true in the show.
Investigations and trails that lead to the culprit are fragmented and inorganic as some convenient scenes are inserted into the screenplay rather than natural progression. In a scene, we see Taec Yeon’s character chasing after a delivery guy and getting an important clue. There could be a reason for this scene (hopefully in the upcoming episodes), but scenes like this do not intrigue at all.
There is violence and bloodshed right from the beginning and there is no space to breathe, or an impactful comic relief. Hence, when some revelations happen, or something supposedly intriguing happens, we are not thrilled. And supposedly frightening scenes are unintentionally funny. The series also does not gain momentum until the third episode.
One of the main reasons for this show to be an anticipated one for me was the presence of Jung Eunji. But she appears only in a few scenes in the first few episodes. Her character does not have an impactful presence yet but hopefully we can see more of her in the upcoming episodes.

Overall, Blind is an average thriller which does not excel. But it is not too bad either. It might pick up pace in the upcoming episodes.
