There are many boys’ love narratives which follow the same cliched story. Ai Long Nhai is nothing different from those stories. Here, it is love at first sight for the protagonist who has a lot of relationships. This is a review of Ai Long Nhai which has the same old BL story.
Ai Long Nhai is also an attempt at creating a fandom for an extremely good looking couple. The narrative is also for that fandom. There is no depth in writing and the love at first sight part is not convincing at all. Or may be they should have hired better translators. The English subtitles are awful. The actors, including the supporting cast are average and their inexperience is very obvious.
The problematic progression of the narrative which disregards the aspect of consent is present here, sadly. And I feel like this does not get criticized enough. It is like an inevitable part of BL narratives these days, which is quite pathetic. It’s also sad to see people who still consider love as something that can be forced and feed that thought to a majority populace.
The characters are also not written well. Chennai is supposed to be a shabby, unorganized person. But, the actor looks too perfect and neat as that character. Ai’s playboy kind of characterization is also not convincing enough.
