God’s favorite Idiot: A humorless Netflix comedy

God’s favorite idiot is an office comedy/apocalyptic fantasy series. The series written and produced by Ben Falcone has Ben Falcone and Melissa McCarthy in lead roles. The story begins when God chooses Clark played by Ben Falcone to deliver a special message to the world. And many people do believe that Clark is the prophet. But others believe that he is the devil’s messenger playing tricks to fool believers. As the story progresses angels, Satan and God appear before Clark.

The writer has made a deliberate effort to make the dialogues funny. But most of the jokes did not land. The lengthy monologues of the major characters was irritating than funny. All the major characters acted as if they could not stop talking once they started it.

The good part of the series is the music. The background score was also good. The Visual effects given to fire, thunder etc. were excellent. The direction and cinematography are astonishing. The scene in which lightning strikes Clark was shot wonderfully. All the stereotypically ‘male’ roles were given to female actors. That is another fascinating thing that hooked me to the series. For example, the role of God and Satan. The actors have done justice to their characters but due to the sloppy writing, I could not enjoy their performances.

Overall, the series is an average flick which requires a good amount of patience to watch till the end. There was nothing that made me curious to watch the next episode.
